Inventory Restrictions

Exclude restricted inventory from inbound, outbound and warehouse transactions
Managing restricted inventory in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central can be tricky. Items that are expiring, recalled, or under inspection often remain visible and available for use, creating the risk of shipping or consuming stock that shouldn’t be touched. The Inventory Restrictions app solves this by giving businesses full control over which tracked items can and can’t be used in transactions.
The app lets users define restriction codes and assign them to lot, serial or package tracked items. When restrictions are applied, those items are automatically excluded from sales, manufacturing, purchasing, or warehouse transactions. Restrictions can be set manually or applied automatically when certain conditions are met such as a lot nearing its expiry date or when an item is received or output.
Restricted inventory can be directed to quarantine bins for isolation, and users can easily view restriction status during item tracking or availability lookups. The app also works with other NIC Systems apps, such as Quality Inspections and Item Recalls, to restrict affected items.
Key Features
Define Restriction Codes: Create restriction codes that determine which transactions, such as sales, manufacturing, purchasing, adjustments, location transfers and bin movements, restricted inventory will be excluded from.
User Access Control: Specify which users are authorized to manually add or remove inventory restrictions.
Bin-Level Restrictions: Assign restrictions to bins so that any tracked items placed in those bins automatically inherit the same restrictions.
Quarantine Bin Management: Direct restricted inventory to designated quarantine bins to keep it isolated from available stock.
Restriction Groups for Items: Assign groups of restrictions to items so that when those items are received or output, the restrictions are automatically applied.
Automatic Expiry-Based Restrictions: Set a time frame that identifies lots nearing expiry and use a job queue to automatically restrict any inventory marked as close to expiring.
Inventory Availability Settings: Define whether restricted inventory should be excluded from available inventory calculations.
Restrictions Worksheet: Add or remove restriction codes using a worksheet, with the ability to assign one or more restrictions to items based on package number, lot number or serial number.
Lot and Sub-Lot Management: Break a lot into sub-lots to apply restrictions to only part of the lot, and merge sub-lots back into the parent lot if needed.
Visibility of Restricted Items: View the restriction status when selecting items during item tracking, checking item availability, or reviewing lot number information.
Restrict Recalled Items: Apply restrictions to items that are part of a recall (requires Item Recalls app).
Block Items During Inspection: Prevent items undergoing a quality inspection from being used in transactions or restrict items that have failed an inspection (requires Quality Inspections app).
Perfect for industries where quality and safety rules are strict, the Inventory Restrictions app helps reduce risk, avoid errors, and maintain full audit compliance.
